Playing in Playa del Carmen!

For the Summer (July) of 2017, I wanted to take the kiddies on another adventure.  We held a travel family meeting and decided that the top things on our list to see were cool ruins and sunny beaches.  My research thus led me to Mexico, home to one of the most famous ruins and a World Wonder, Chichen Itza!  I have always wanted to visit a World Wonder and also heard that Mexico’s beaches were amazing.  So off we went and we were not disappointed!  Scroll down to see some of our trip’s highlights…

UPON ARRIVING IN CANCUN, WE HAD NO HOTEL OR PLANS SO WE BOOKED THE 1ST TOUR WE SAW… TO ISLA  MUJERES. WE SNORKELED, PLAYED WITH SHARKS, AND TOOK IN SOME VITAMIN SEA.

After spending the day in Isla Mujeres, we booked a bus to Playa del Carmen where our Airbnb was located and got settled in for the night.  The next day we took to the Streets!

Initially, when I told family and friends that I was heading to Mexico alone with just the kiddies, all I heard was “be careful!” there is crime, kidnappings, and drugs.  And although these things do exist and when traveling you should always use precaution, I never felt unsafe in Playa del Carmen.  We stayed at a condo through Airbnb with a cool rooftop pool.  We walked everywhere exploring the neighborhood and sampling different food spots.

WAITING FOR OUR YUMMY TACOS!

Our Airbnb host told us about a cool beach that only locals go to and is never crowded, so we set out to find it.  It was gorgeous!

SHE GETS IT FROM HER MAMA! 😉

I travel for many reasons, one of them being because I want to learn about the people and the places I am going to see.  I truly love to experience cultures that are different from my own.  And I think it is so important to teach my children that this world is made up of more than just the neighborhood they live in, the school they attend, and the children they play with.  Visiting Mexico gave them a glimpse into something that was different, but also provided familiarity to our home culture as a Latin household.   And of course, we got to see cool ruins and sunny beaches too.  It was a great trip!
