I Survived the Inca Trail!

The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is the embodiment of “it’s the journey, not the destination”.  It has been on my bucket list for years, but life as it does always got in the way! This year, however I was finally able to make this trek.  I was even able to make it extra special by wrangling one of my friends to come and help me enter my 37th year of life atop this World Wonder!  And now I have no idea how I will ever top that experience, but that won’t stop me from trying.  In the meantime, here are some highlights from the Inca Trail…

THE START OF  MY TREK ON THE INCA TRAIL AT 82km FROM CUSCO TO AGUAS CALIENTES
THE FIRST STOP ALONG THE INCA TRAIL WHERE LUNCH WAS SERVED
        WALKING AMONGST THE CLOUDS
 VIEW OF THE URUBAMBA RIVER
NOTHING COULD HAVE PREPARED ME FOR THE BEAUTY I WITNESSED
I CAN UNEQUIVOCALLY SAY THE JOURNEY WAS THE DESTINATION, BUT ARRIVING AT MACHU PICCHU WASN’T HALF BAD!

Rickety bridges, lost Incan ruins, small narrow caves, walking in the clouds, learning how to make every breath and step count…26 miles of Incan rock steps, paths and inclines at 4,000 meters above sea level… an experience of a lifetime.
